Paperblanks puzzle 1000 pieces - Jungle Song
Jungle Song 1000 piece puzzle from Paperblanks
Laurel Burch was an artist who created brilliantly colored, vibrant and moving themes with paint and paper, themes that inspired this design. For this Jungle Song design, Laurel Burch's original characters, foliage and other details were adapted by a Japanese craftsman to create a new watercolor painting.
All art is a chance to experience a mood, a feeling, a feeling. Laurel Burch's (1945-2007) art has a particularly uplifting, joyful, nurturing quality. Designs from our colorful Laurel Burch collection can take you on a flight of fancy, from a world of fantastic felines to a celebration of the Spirit of Womankind.
Born in Southern California, Laurel was diagnosed with a congenital bone disease that resulted in more than a hundred broken bones during her lifetime. She was brought up in the difficult conditions of a broken family and as a teenager chose to walk away from this life and take her own, independent path. She eventually found her place in San Francisco, and as a single mother sought creative ways to support her family.
Although not trained in art or jewelry making, Laurel began assembling interesting metal scraps she found at junk yards. She created quirky jewelry and developed her artistic style into what we see today. Her vibrant colors and cheerful paintings became so popular that her works were licensed worldwide. Through art she found her solace, her refuge, her sense of spiritual restoration.
Laurel's images are filled with imaginative visions, vibrant colors and living creatures. When she went to China in 1971 to begin mass production of the items she designed, she discovered cloisonné, a traditional technique for decorating metal surfaces with enamel. This became a characteristic feature of her artistic style.
In this design, Laurel Burch's original characters, foliage and other details have been adapted by a Japanese craftsman to create a new watercolor painting. The artwork was created to adapt Laurel's designs to screen printing. Repeated patterns from Laurel's original works, including borders, backgrounds and animals, were selected to create a completely new, seamless design in her unique style.
Laurel began as a self-taught artist who connected with others by giving them the pieces she made. She went on to become a pioneering businesswoman at the head of a merchandising empire. And just as she always wished, the jewellery, fashion accessories, household items adorned with her paintings continue to brighten people's lives.
